Program In Colorado Brings Guns To Middle School To Teach Kids Firearm Safety

A three day program is being held at Carver Middle School in Colorado City, Colorado that includes real guns – and lots of them, to teach children firearm safety. Me personally I’m all about this and think it’s a great idea. Every liberal thinker in America would probably throw a fit about this, but who cares right? If you think this is a bad idea check out this video of what happens when uneducated children come in contact with a gun. Be sure to follow Man Stuff on Google+.

“COLORADO CITY, Colo. — Guns … lots of them… were brought into the classroom at Craver Middle School in Colorado City in the southern part of the state.”

COLORADO CITY, Colo. —  Guns in the classroom. It’s not something you hear about every day.

“Well, we’re teaching them about the firearms so they are familiar with them. They can be safe with them,” said Jim Hathit, the coordinator of Project Appleseed.

“That’s a lot of guns to have in school, especially since you probably don’t have this many just at your house or something,” said Courtney Proctor, an eighth-grade student at Carver Middle School.

Hathit brought the three-day program to the southern Colorado middle school. The course teaches people across the country how to fire weapons safely.

“I think it’s better for them to have respect for it, know how to handle it, not that they should, but that they are aware about the firearms,” Haith said. “It’s not an, ‘Oh, what’s this? What can we do with this?'”

Many students said they already have experience with weapons.

“I feel OK because I went shooting a lot when I was younger with my parents,” Proctor said.

The program is leaving a lasting impression on teenagers.

“I think it’s pretty cool,” seventh-grader Tristan Baker said. “It’s not something you know you don’t get to see every day. It’s something that you get to come in and say, ‘Wow, look at all these nice, awesome, firearms.'”

One student said he already is learning an important message.

“You should never be afraid of a gun, never, ever,” Baker said. “You should have confidence around a gun, you should say, ‘This is a gun, we gotta be careful with this, even though we should never trust guns, we should always be careful with them.” Via – Fox 31
