Nintendo Fans Will Love the Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition

Hasbro has a Nintendo collaboration with Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition and I can’t believe it. Monopoly is a beloved board game, and well, there’s a monopoly for any franchise you can imagine. When I opened this next Monopoly game, all I could do was hear familiar “pipe level” music. If that means nothing to you, then you aren’t a Mario fan.

Monopoly Gamer Collection

Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition features Mario and Donkey Kong characters but no, you won’t see Pokemon here — that’s a separate game you can buy. There’s actually two versions of Monopoly Gamer. One version is available at most retailers, and the other, is just at GameStop.

The GameStop one has a premium box with a storage tray for when you inevitably buy more more playable characters. You will too, because this game is fun. Other versions of Monopoly put a focus on making the most money you can through strategic property acquisition and high rents, but Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition takes it to a new level.

You earn points by buying properties, collecting coins and beating Bosses – it’s just like the quests and features of the video games.

The design is a complete homage to the 8-bit worlds of the Nintendo games, and it’s great. All over the gameboard, you’ll find familiar Nintendo motifs, such as the green pipes and castles of the Super Mario Brothers games.

Included with the game are 5 Nintendo character tokens of Bowser, Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi and Donkey Kong, each with their own character cards and stickers. It’s strange that Luigi isn’t packaged with the game, but you guessed it, he’s sold separately. The remaining playing pieces are 8 Boss cards, 16 Title Deed cards, 1 numbered die, 1 power-up die, 90 coins and finally, a game guide.

The extra characters are actually sold in “mystery packs” like Lego minifigures with options including Luigi, Rosalina, Boo and other versions of Mario. The packs are under $5 so you’re not breaking the bank getting the whole set, but you may have to buy a few packs to get the figures you want. Each figure pack has a matching character card and sticker. All of this is just beautifully rendered with well-detailed figures that really look like their characters.

If you’ve ever played Monopoly before, you know that it can get really competitive but also go on forever. The makers of Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition got smart, and made it faster. Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition doesn’t get boring because the game shifts with each play and you get to hit players with a shell, just like in Mario Kart. You also don’t have to worry about being eliminated like the other Monopoly games, which is more fun for kids or beginner game players.

Nintendo has been in the hearts of many of us for years and it was great to see Nintendo reinvent the Mario franchise, which isn’t in any stage of dying, in a new way. You’ll find that if you love Monopoly and Nintendo that this is a must-purchase.
