“Another fight, another walk-off knockout for Mark Hunt (12-10-1).

Hunt, 41, knocked out Frank Mir (18-11) in the opening round of UFC Fight Night 85’s main event last night (Sat. March 19, 2016) on FOX Sports 1 from inside Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia.

The official time of the stoppage came at 3:01 of round one.

Mir, 36, shot in on a takedown early, but was unsuccessful. Both Heavyweight veterans were very cautious with there approach. Hunt threw a few big punches, but could not connect. Mir flirted with a few more level changes, but did not pull the trigger on another takedown.

With just under two minutes left in the round, Hunt connected on a huge big right hand right behind the left ear of Mir and the 15-year veteran crumbled to the canvas. Hunt walked away triumphantly as referee Marc Goddard waved it off.

It was another huge win for Hunt, who never ceases to amaze … especially at his age. The knockout over Mir is his fifth in UFC competition (ninth overall), where he improves his record to 7-4-1. He is won two straight. “Super Samoan” was ranked No. 10 in UFC’s Heavyweight division heading in the bout and should get a Top 10 opponent in his next bout.

Meanwhile, it was a disappointing loss for Mir, who has now lost two in straight. Mir falls to 16-11 in UFC competition. The savvy veteran was ranked No. 9 heading into this bout and may plummet a few spots in the rankings after the loss.” Via – MMA Mania
