Hyke & Byke’s Snowmass 0 Degree Down Sleeping Bag is the best on the market. The quality is beyond excellent. Nothing but the best materials make up this sleeping bag and that is apparent from the first time you get in. The sleeping bag is made of water repellent and ripstop nylon fabric, features heavy duty zippers (that have yet to snag), and premium duck down fill that offers adequate cushioning along with a level of warmth I have never experienced before. The sleeping bag even has an extra wide shoulder area so the fit isn’t too snug, and a large footbox for added comfort.
As for the other things Hyke and Byke did right when designing this sleeping bag, and we thought needed mentioning in this review, those include the:
Grid Design – This works to effectively and evenly retain heat so once you’re in, you warm up quickly and stay that way.
Fill Choice – When you want to make it through a few nights in the freezing cold, you need duck down fill to get you through, bottom line. The stuff literally is one of nature’s best insulators.
Two Available Sizes – Regular fits those up to 6′ 1″ tall and Large is suited for those 6’2’’ to 6’6’’. The regular was fine for me but having the option was nice. I suppose if you want more room but are within the height range for the regular you can go for the large.
Total Weight – Size ‘Regular’ weighs a mere 3.68 lbs. while ‘Long’ is 4.14 lbs.
Compact Design – Along with being very light, these sleeping bags are compact, like surprisingly compact. After removing it from the compression bag and unrolling to try it out I thought it was going to be one of those hopeless attempts to get the sleeping bag properly packed up again but doing so was simple. The compression sack does the job as does the top and bottom compression panels. The sleeping bag compresses to 11 inches long with an 8-inch diameter.
Aside from the specifics, this sleeping bag is just awesome. Usually, when you’re out hiking or camping, the “sleeping accommodations” are less than satisfactory. You’re often left cold, damp and yeah, COLD
but with this bag, you’ll warm up quickly and that warmth remains. The sleeping bag also delivers that false sense of security needed when you hear a wolf howling at night. Just remember to stay down, stay still and stay quiet.
