Colorado Department Of Transportation Using WW2 105mm Howitzer To Clear Snow
Well this isn’t something you see everyday. The Colorado Department Of Transportation has been using a WW2 105mm Howitzer to clear some of the heavy snow that has recently fallen around Colorado. The 105 mm Howitzer is leased from the U.S. Army by the Colorado Department Of Transportation and they use it to clear avalanche prone areas in Colorado. The 105mm 40lb round can travel up to 7 miles, and when it lands, a secondary charge breaks up all of the snow and sends it down the mountain. Believe it or not, for the DOT in Colorado this is actually the cheapest and most effective means of clearing the snow.
