Simpsons Predictions that Came True
1. Corona Virus
In 1993, an episode in the 4th Season of the Simpsons titled “Marge in Chains”, featured a sick Asian worker sneezing on juicers bound for Springfield. This contaminated shipment sets off the “Osaka Flu” outbreak in Spring Field. Of course, 27 years later, we’re now living in viral outbreak scenario.
2. President Trump and the Economy
In the year 2000, an episode titled “Bart to the Future” featured Lisa becoming president after the previous president, Donald Trump, purportedly ruined the economy. As we all know, 17 years later, Trump did become president. And in 2020, the economy seems like it’s on the trajectory of economic ruin.
3. Faulty Voting Machines
In a 1998 episode titled “Bart Carny”, excited kids were eagerly playing on a yard work simulator. 11 years later, in 2009, people rushed home from school and work to tend to their virtual farms on Farmville.
5. Siegfried and Roy Tiger Attack
In a 1993 episode titled “$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling),” showed Siegfried and Roy being attacked by their trusted tiger. 10 years later, in Las Vegas, magicians in a Siegfried and Roy like show were attacked on stage by their white tiger.
In an unfortunate but related event, in May 2020, Roy Horn of the Siegfried and Roy show has died of the Coronavirus as referenced by the first Simpson’s prediction.
Simpson’s Predictions that COULD come true
Wait for it… There are a few more predictions of the future that the Simpson’s have made which are yet to come true. Here are the best ones in no particular order.
1. Virtual Reality Food
In October 2019, an episode titled “Treehouse of Horrors XXX” features Homer and Marge eating virtual fudge through VR Glasses and a Feeding Tube. Perhaps this reality is not so virtual as cruise companies such as “Royal Caribbean” try to find novel ways to survive after the Corona Pandemic, plans to use VR to transport diners to a new setting with every bite.
2. Mind Control through Music
In a 2001 episode titled “New Kids on the Blecch”, Bart and his friends form a boy band and unknowingly spread subliminal messages to their fans. As it turns out, there’s suspicion that Hip Hop lyrics can brainwash listeners, so this prediction may come true or may already be happening and is just awaiting confirmation.
3. Hover Cars
In a 2016 a season 27 episode titled “Love Is in the N2-O2-Ar-CO2-Ne-He-CH4” features Homer and Bart driving around in a hover car. With drones all but common place these days, perhaps it’s just a matter of time before we get one in reality. Renault has revealed an interesting concept car called the “Float” which would bring us within striking distance of turning this prediction into reality.
4. Hologram Mail
Back in 2000, in a season 11 Episode “Bart to the Future”, a scene featured a deadbeat Bart receiving a hologram mail. In 2020, we have the ubiquitous smartphone, and a 3 sided Hologram display. So, it’s just a matter of time before every smartphone comes with a holographic display to turn this prediction into reality.
5. Ivanka for President
In a 2016 episode titled “Treehouse of Horrors XXVII”, Homer wore an IVANKA 2028 shirt thus predicting a potential 2028 run for the current first daughter. With Trump having Ivanka attend G20 meetings, don’t think that this idea hasn’t crossed the President’s mind. Watch this space to see if Ivanka Trump makes a run for the presidency in 8 years time.
