Man and beast have always shared an interesting bond, especially when we learned to domesticate them. It would be silly to think that the friendship and bond between a man and his pet is never that serious. When this truck driver adopted a cat from the streets his entire life changed for the better. That was, until one day, when the sweet cat went missing and the driver went in search for miles to find his best friend…
20. Ginger Cat
This is Percy, an adorable and sweet ginger colored cat. Percy has lived a hard life on the streets until one day he crossed paths with a truck driver that would change his life forever.
19. A Year Ago
About a year ago, truck driver Paul Robertson crossed paths with the ginger cat. The timing was perfect, as Robertson had recently had to say good-bye to his beloved cat Howie. Howie and Robertson had shared many years of memories together.
18. Perfect Timing
Paul had a serious void in his heart that needed filling. So when Percy came along he knew he wanted to open his heart up again to another fur buddy and boy was he happy that he did!
17. Bad Shape
“When I first adopted Percy I noticed that his right eye was a little battered… the orbit of his right eye was clearly banged hard by something, and then healed up a little out of shape,” Paul explained.
16. Street Cat
“Also, just above that, he has almost no whiskers on his right eyebrow. And when he opens his mouth, the lower fang on his right side is also gone. Percy must have lived on the streets for a while before I adopted him,” Paul said.
15. A Purrfect Team
Together, Percy and Paul have traveled across the country on trucking trips. Percy’s personality is sweet and even-tempered, making him a great travel companion. Due to this, Paul decided to upload their road trips onto his Facebook account.
14. Photos
Paul began uploading the sweetest photos of Percy onto his Facebook page. Many included Percy basking in the sun on the dashboard of the truck. Everyone became incredibly invested in the travels of these two buddies.
13. Sweet Behavior
“While I’m driving he often climbs onto my lap and rubs his cheek against me, or just sits there and purrs. And the end of the day he gets quite happy because he knows it’s dinner time,” Paul told Love Meow.
12. Love
“During our year together I would frequently pick him up and look at his eye, then hug him and whisper to him, ‘You’ve had it tough, but you’re okay now. I’ll take care of you,” Paul said sweetly.
11. Food Poisoning
It was obvious that Paul had a real sweet spot for Percy, that’s why when the unthinkable happened his heart broke. It all started when Paul had to pull the truck over because of some food poisoning. He decided to stop at a rest stop and kept the truck running.
10. Missing
When Paul finally woke up a few hours later he noticed that Percy was nowhere to be found. “When I woke, the electric window by Percy’s perch was open,” Robertson posted. “And Percy is gone. He wasn’t stolen, he did this once before, when I first adopted him. But never since,” Paul wrote on Facebook.
9. Devastated
“And this is the worst possible day. I’ve been searching this rest area now ever since, calling his name and rattling his dry food bag. Nothing. I have no idea when he got out. He could be miles away,” Paul wrote.
8. Hours
Paul continued to search for hours on end but to no avail. Percy was nowhere to be found and Paul had to continue with his delivery to make it on time. Robertson’s heart was broken as he started up the truck and drove away.
7. Miles On End
Paul continued to drive for hundreds of miles and was greeted by some pretty bad weather. The bad weather and the fact that he lost his best friend was all a terrible mixture. However, he was still able to make it to the delivery on time.
6. Loose Cargo
Once he was at the delivery spot, Paul noticed some loose cargo that he decided to pull out. It was then he saw the most unbelievable thing! He couldn’t believe his eyes!
5. Percy’s Return
Suddenly, Percy appeared right before his very eyes from under the truck. It seems that he had been under there the entire time since Paul made his stop at the rest stop. Paul was in shock and his heart was full of joy.
4. Reunited
“I scooped him up and we were soon back together in the truck, cuddling and hugging and purring and happy as can be,” Robertson wrote. “He’s now sitting in the driver’s seat, probably warm for the first time in 40 hours, belly full, snoozing peacefully.”
3. Thankful
Paul had originally shared his worries with his Facebook friends and they were all trying to help him cope as much as they could. Many offered to set up traps or offered their condolences to him. Now he went on Facebook to thank them all and you won’t believe his message.
2. So Much Help
“I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to all of you for the outpouring of love and concern for this little pussycat,” Robertson posted. “I love thinking that he has so many aunties and uncles who care for him.”
1. Great People
“I hope everyone who pitched in to help in any way they could, whether it was offering moral support or to go and set out traps or help search … I hope you’re all fantastically proud of yourselves. This little orange furry soul means the world to me. Thank you for caring about him too.”
