If you only own one multi-tool, it should be the Leatherman Skeletool CX

The Leatherman Skeletool CX Multitool (830850) is the newest model keeping in step with a famous line of tools. The key to the popularity of the Skeletool CX is its lightweight body. A lot of other “similar” tools are bulky and cumbersome due mainly to the number of tools packed into them. This stainless-steel Leatherman is selective with its features and only carries the necessary tools you’ll need in a pinch. Automatically that makes it lighter.

The Leatherman has long been the go-to tool for the handyman or woman on the go. It seems everyone I know has one. You should try going through a metal detector with my wife’s family. Everyone has to unload their Leatherman – my wife, my father-in-law, my brother-in-law and yes even my mother-in-law always has one strapped to her hip. Leatherman Skeletool Cx 301

The Tungsten DLC coating on the body of the Leatherman Skeletool CX will help protect against corrosion and scratches. That means you should feel free to use it under any conditions, especially in a hurricane. It doesn’t hurt that this coating also makes it look slick.

Alright enough about its sexy body, let’s look at what tools are available in the Skeletool CX. First up is the knife. You always have to start with the knife. This one is a large straight blade made of steel. Specifically, it uses 154CM steel which is nearly indestructible. Yes, that’s an exaggeration, but it’s still tough. The blade is partially serrated which allows you that extra umph you might need while cutting or sawing.

Outside of the blade, we’ve got a universal bit driver with 1/16-inch and 1/4-inch screwdriver bits as well as Phillips #1 and #2 bits. Separately you can buy a companion bit kit that includes 21 double-ended pieces for all occasions, not including breaking and entering. That’s a different bit kit entirely.

The Leatherman is known for its main-featured pliers. These jaws include a conventional wire cutter and hard-wire cutter for both easy and tough jobs.

One of the things I love about this industry-leading company is their 25-year warranty. Sure, it’s a limited warranty, but still, it’s 25 years. Anything other than a jail sentence that promotes 25 years is alright in my book.
