Despite the constant advances of technology, i just can’t get out of the habit of scribbling notes and ideas on paper. The problem is when I have so many random miscellaneous notebooks, and I have to then scan them all in. Writing notes with a stylus on my phone is okay, especially since it syncs to the computer or my Evernote account, but it’s kind of awkward to write long stretches of content on there. Rocketbook Wave, a new smart notebook, might be the solution for me, and you, if you find yourself with this same problem.
Rocketbook Wave looks and feels like a “real” traditional notebook, but is the world’s first smart notebook. You’ll be able to use a pen or highlighter on it, but the Rocketbook Wave’s corresponding app will sync your notes to a number of places: Google Drive, iCloud, Evernote, Dropbox, Slack and more. It’s a fusion of pen and paper with the cloud in a way that works how you work.
Using and Reusing the Rocketbook Wave
Here’s the thing that makes the Rocketbook Wave different than any other notebook. It’s reusable. You can microwave — yes, microwave — the Rocketbook to clear the pages. The Rocketbook may be microwaved up to 5 times when you use a Pilot FriXion pen. Pilot FriXion pens are known for their ability to erase cleanly, so the creators have chosen this pen to work with the notebook. Once the ink hits 140 degrees F / 60 degrees C, it goes clear. The Rocketbook Wave comes with one FriXion pen, and they can be purchased at most stationary stores as well as Amazon.
You write in the Rocketbook Wave, then when you want to capture its contents, you can pick up your phone and scan it with the mobile app. You hold your phone — app phone — above the pages and it scans them instantly, turning them into a crisp digital edition. If you’ve used the app CamScanner before, you may know what I mean — it makes them easier to read, and clear. The pages have marked symbols that coordinate to the destination, i.e. you mark the Evernote symbol to send the pages to Evernote. The ability to snap and capture your notes instantly also makes it easy to have a collaboration project.
The Rest of the Rocketbook Family
The Rocketbook Wave is the basic version of the smart notebook, and retail for around $27.00 for the Standard (8.5 in x 9.5 in) or Executive (6 in x 8.9 in), though the Amazon Prime price is a bit lower right now.
The creators have also developed a more advanced smart book, the Rocketbook Everlast. This notebook is endlessly reusable, as it doesn’t need to be microwaved. You only need to drop water onto your notes (after capturing them with the app) and the pages will be clear. It still connects to the cloud devices and you still need to use the Pilot FriXion pens, which are really affordable.
Finally, for kids or anyone who loves to doodle, there’s the Rocketbook Color, which work with Crayola dry-erase and washable products. You can capture countless drawings and scribbles with the app, just like the other Rocketbooks. This might be a gift for some parent friends this year since they’ll have to throw away their kids’ drawings again. The Rocketbook Everlast is 8.5 in x 11 in / 32 pages in letter size or 6 in x 8.8 in, both for $34.00, while the Rocketbook Color is $22.00. You can now get all versions of Rocketbook on Amazon.com.
