Love Every Meal You Cook with Suvie Cooker and Just Enjoy Food
Who has time to cook? Anyone? That’s the reason that meal kit subscriptions for Hello Fresh and Blue Apron are so popular. I guess that’s also the reasoning behind Suvie Cooker: Kitchen Robot with Multi-Zone Cooking & Refrigeration. The Suvie Cooker was developed by a former Apple engineer and promises “5 star meals with zero effort.” If that’s not enough, here’s the longer definition:
“The Suvie Cooker appliance is a WiFi-enabled countertop multi-zone cooker and refrigerator that easily turns four individual meal components—raw proteins, fresh vegetables, dry starches, and chef-designed sauces—into one perfectly cooked, restaurant quality meal that’s ready whenever you want it to be.”
Yep, that sounds great. I saw this project on Kickstarter and thought I’d take a look — I like what I see! As you can see below, the food gets loaded into individual compartments, each designated for a certain type of food. The food is kept refrigerated in said compartments until you’re ready to cook.
Once you tell the Souvie that you want to eat, it calculates how to begin cooking each section of food. For instance, if you’re having sauces, then it will begin warming them, and then steaming the vegetables. The menu will dictate how the food needs to be cooked. The makers have promised “meticulous” calculations.
To take the guesswork out of the meal-planning, you can opt for the Suvie Smart Meals delivery service which delivers everything you need for gourmet meals. However, it does work with your own ingredients which is probably why I’d get it.
The food — if you get the meal delivery — is packaged in recyclable packaging while the pans and such of Suvie as dishwasher-safe so you should get easy cleanup. Right now the initial prices are $10 to $12 a serving for the meal kit, so a bit more expensive than Blue Apron but the makers believe they can make the prices go to $7 to $8 per saving which is a nice cut.
So how does the Suvie appliance know when you want to eat? You tell it via an app, of course. Before you leave the house, you set the pre-seasoned protein in the pan and fill it with water, then follow the instructions for the vegetables, starches, etc. Suvie has a removable water tank that it uses to cook the meal.
However, you DON’T need a Wifi connection to use Suvie, the makers share in their FAQ. You will need internet access to customize your meals online as you can “build your own meal from over 10,000 custom options that include raw proteins, fresh vegetables, dry starches and gourmet sauces.”
Suvie is probably going to be a household name soon because it had a funding goal of $100,000 on Kickstarter and reached over $417,000. The list price of a Suvie is $599 though backers will get a discount.
There’s also options to get 2 Suvie Kitchen Robot appliances at a discount if you become a backer. With over 20 days to go, it’s sure to sell out fast, so if you want to look at some cooking technology that looks straight out of the Jetsons, go on over to the Kickstarter page now or visit their website.
